More and more people suffer from burnout syndrome

Burnout syndrome, a state of massive emotional and physical exhaustion with significantly reduced performance, primarily affects highly motivated and committed people. The burnout syndrome is usually triggered by permanent stress that cannot be coped with by those affected. The causes and consequences of burnout syndrome have been discussed by psychotherapist Dr. Rudolf Pastovic discussed in “Isar Park” Plattling last week. The Croatian-born specialist for psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy spoke to a good 50 listeners, emphasizing, among other things, that particularly highly motivated, particularly committed and very responsible people are at risk.

Every second Thursday there is a free health lecture in the specialist center in the "Isar Park", with the expert Dr. Rudolf Pastovic spoke about the burnout syndrome. The specialist for psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy has been practicing "Isar Park" Plattling since September last year. At the beginning of his previous day, Dr. Pastovic that "burn out" means "burn out". Those affected burn out with motivation, explained Dr. Pastovic. According to the expert, they are fully committed to a job, but in the course of frustrating experiences, disillusionment and apathy set in, which in the end could lead to the typical symptoms of burnout syndrome and other psychosomatic diseases such as depression. People who can no longer switch off are particularly at risk, explained Dr. Globalization means that the sun never sets and that the "burning" people are often at home for a long time even in the evening. The professional does not necessarily have to be the cause of the "burn-out", the specialist explained. For example, long-term care of sick relatives can lead to burnout syndrome.

Often, those affected do not notice exhaustion. Those affected are only rarely aware of the depletion of their body, mind and psyche, and even with complete emotional exhaustion, accompanied by recurring frustrating experiences, they would not recognize their wrongdoing, explained Dr. Possible consequences of the burnout syndrome are apathetic, depressive or aggressive behavior and decreasing interest up to suicide, the specialist for psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy explained. The most common symptoms are according to Dr. Pastovic for example chronic fatigue, mental exhaustion, psychological changes in behavior and also physical complaints. However, as a result of chronic stress, these are rarely recognized and often ignored, the specialist explained. It is not the working time that is decisive for the occurrence of burnout syndrome, but the interaction of stress and exhaustion. If the burnout syndrome has manifested, the persistent lack of mental performance and drive as well as the loss of the ability to recover is not only a problem for those affected, but also the professional and private environment would be due to the "contagious" nature of burnout. Syndrome affected.

First warning signals of a burnout syndrome According to experts, warning signals in the initial phase of burnout syndrome are, for example, an almost exaggerated commitment to specific goals, non-stop work with almost no recovery or relaxation phases. Even if the profession is considered a vital part of life and failure is ignored or social contacts are concentrated on the relevant area, this should be seen as a possible warning sign of burnout syndrome. Often, the neglect of the partner, persistent exhaustion or chronic fatigue and the search for distraction from alcohol, tobacco, internet and computer activities or pronounced eating go hand in hand, the experts emphasize. In this context, sleep disorders and poor concentration can also be viewed as a warning signal of burnout syndrome. (fp)
